Press Release
Onitsha, Nigeria – Edufun Technik STEM Foundation is proud to announce the third cohort of its highly successful Queen Afrique Academy Program, starting February 10th, 2023. This 6-week intensive training program is designed to provide 75 girls from underserved communities with the digital skills necessary to succeed in the digital age and bridge the gender gap in tech. The program is open to girls between the ages of 16 and 25 who have completed their basic education, and who have a keen interest in acquiring digital skills.
“We are thrilled to offer another cohort of the Queen Afrique Academy Program,” says Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu, COO of Edufun Technik STEM Foundation. “Our goal is to empower girls from underserved communities with the skills they need to succeed in the digital age and bridge the gender gap in tech by increasing the representation of women in STEM fields. We believe that this program will have a significant impact on the lives of the girls who participate, as well as on the broader community.”
The Queen Afrique Academy Program focuses on core digital skills including Website Design, Digital Marketing, Graphic Design, Video Editing, Personal Development & Branding, Social Media Management, Content Creation, and Entrepreneurship. The program is held in a classroom setting, with each session lasting 5 hours per day, 5 days a week. The program includes mentorship opportunities, which connect the girls with successful women in the tech industry, providing them with role models and the chance to learn from the experiences and insights of these women. Additionally, the program provides follow-up support for the girls who complete the program, including career counseling and job placement assistance, to help ensure they are able to take advantage of the opportunities the program provides.
“The Queen Afrique program is designed to expose young women to the world of technology and show them that it is not just for men, but for everyone regardless of gender,” says Ofor Ngozi Agatha, a previous participant of the program. “Thanks to the knowledge I gained from the program, I am now able to run my online business efficiently through the teachings of content marketing and branding.”
Ogbuagu Favour Mmesoma, another previous participant, adds, “I had no prior experience with computers and found using them to be challenging. My experience at the hub was fantastic and provided a solution to my problem. Since then, I’ve been able to do everything online and don’t need to pay anyone for typing or design work.”
“The Queen Afrique program in 2022 opened my eyes to the world of technology,” says Mmesoma Obiazor, another participant in the program. “The knowledge I gained from the program is making a significant difference in my daily tech operations. The Queen Afrique program has been a valuable investment for me, providing me with the skills and knowledge to effectively use technology in my personal and professional life.”
“The Queen Afrique Academy Program is an important initiative that provides girls from underserved communities with the tools and resources they need to achieve their goals,” says Amara Okpala-Onwuamegbu, a spokesperson for Edufun Technik STEM Foundation. “We believe that this program will help to increase the representation of women in STEM fields and have a lasting impact on the lives of the girls who participate.”
