Anglican Diocese of Nnewi Sets Up Diocesan Centre for Coding and Robotics

The Anglican Diocese of Nnewi has announced plans to set up a Diocesan Centre for Coding and Robotics to ensure that the children in the diocese are not left out in the 21st century digital revolution. This was made known by the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi during the flag-off of Coding and Robotic training workshop in partnership with Edufun Technik STEM & Robotics Center.

This program will be extended to 16 major secondary schools in the Diocese and the Nnewi Diocesan School Board aims to make coding and robotics part of the students’ curriculum.

The Bishop said he first came in contact with coding and robotics as an Archdeacon, thanks to Uchenna Onwuamaegbu-Ugwu, the founder of Edufun Technik. The Bishop commended the Edufun Technik facilitators for their dedication to the program, noting that they have made a heavy investment in it, as well as a sacrifice, in order to make it a success.

The Archdeacon in charge of education in the Diocese, Ven. Henry Nzubechukwu Nduka (JP), mentioned the financial requirements of the program and how they nonetheless decided to invest in it, knowing the great benefits it would bring.

Uchenna Onwuamegbu-Ugwu, Chief Operating Officer of Edufun Technik and facilitator of the program, highlighted the importance of coding, artificial intelligence, and robotics education in the 21st century, emphasizing the need for policymakers to include them in the nation’s school curriculum.

One of the beneficiaries of the program, Mmesoma, stated her gratitude for the experience and explained how the program had opened her eyes to the possibilities of embracing technology.

The Diocese of Nnewi is confident that its decision to introduce coding and robotics to the students in the Diocese will help to equip them with the skills they need to succeed in the future.
